Literary Agent

InterStar Literary Agency seeks a Literary Agent with publishing experience to represent commercial fiction and a broad range of non-fiction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reading queries and evaluating manuscripts
• Signing clients
• Corresponding with clients and editors via e-mail and phone
• Tracking submissions and managing extensive submission list
• Developing projects in-house
• Composing pitch letters for submission
• Maintaining relationships with editors
• Writing rejection letters
• Editing manuscripts
• Preparing proposals for submission
• Keeping foreign rights manager up to date on the status of projects
• Keeping TV/film co-agents up to date on the status of projects
• Cataloging client and editor correspondence
• Tracking and researching sales information
• Keeping detailed schedules

Qualifications:

• College degree or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of publishing experience
• Excellent people and communication skills
• Superior organizational skills and very detail-oriented
• Extremely professional and articulate
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Interest in fiction and non-fiction

Salary: Commission-based

Internships

InterStar Literary Agency is accepting applications for two Editorial Interns to assist the team for six months this coming Spring / Summer (March 2021 to November 2021). Candidates should want to gain experience at an agency, have a flexible schedule, be able to devote 20 hours a week, and be comfortable working remotely.

Overall, InterStar is looking for applicants that have some publishing experience, a passion for books, sharp eye for detail, a desire to learn how the industry and how agenting works, and basic critical reading, researching and organizational skills.

Duties:

• Read partial and full manuscripts, non-fiction proposals
• Write readers reports, engage in discussion on manuscripts, understand the market, evaluate material
• Assist agents in getting projects ready for submission including: admin work, research, copy editing

Ideal Candidate:

• Strong writing and editing skills
• Detail oriented
• Comfortable working remotely
• Previous publishing experience in an editorial or agency environment
